How’s it Going?
I hope you have your dream journal set up and have learnt the Robert Monroe quote or something similar in your own words. If learning it is proving difficult, write it out on a piece of paper and carry it with you. Every so often, when you have a moment, read it.
There are many factors that contribute to successful OBEs and I feel one of the most important is something I call Spiritual Longing. I made a video about it.
In the Kybalion, (first published in 1908, can be found on Internet), it is written:
“All progress is a Returning Home,” that longing we often feel is the pull towards spiritual progress and evolution.
If I haven’t had an OBE for a while, for whatever reasons, it is this longing that acts like a magnet towards the spiritual, to that contact with the astral and beyond. It is this that gets me out, OBE techniques are secondary detail and only the means to the end.
So how do we nurture this longing?
How do we make the feeling so deep and profound that it is a major factor in our OBE success?
Before I had my first conscious OBE I would sometimes lucid dream, in the dreams I would meet an old Geography teacher. This teacher had made an impression on me at school, as if he knew things about me that I didn’t know. For some reason he started to appear in my lucid dreams, I would try to lucid dream at will because I wanted to meet him and talk to him about my life, the world, the universe, the hows and whys. At the time I didn’t realise but later on when I started OBE’ing I realised that my beloved geography teacher was in fact a representation of my higher self. The profound desire that I had to meet with my old teacher was really a profound desire to connect with my higher self. It was this profound desire, this longing to connect, that contributed to my OBEs. Have you ever had one of those dreams where someone you met in the dream loved you unconditionally? A love so total and so complete that it is difficult to describe. So profound that you wanted to connect to that person again, you longed to meet him/her so you could once more connect to that source of love. This is what we have to work on, the longing, the profound desire to connect to the spiritual.
If I was to describe the place in my physical body where this longing resides, I would say my heart. It is like the longing you feel when you are away from home and you want to go back, only magnified, it is not just a fleeting feeling, it is forever present. You can meditate on this longing or you can just take a quiet moment and feel that desire to connect. Tune in to it before you go to sleep.
So the exercise for Stage 3 is to tune in to that longing and feel it like a magnet pulling you towards the spiritual, towards connection with your higher self.
