As I have mentioned in other podcast episodes I am making audios out of some blog posts, this one is a bit of a mystery to me I don’t remember it at all but I definitely wrote it. This is the importance of writing down experiences or recording them in some way as it is so easy to forget, you gain great insights from reading again at a later date.
Often in the early hours of the morning I try a variation of an astral projection technique. The basic technique is keeping the mind awake while the body falls asleep. If you manage it, it is a lovely sensation, but it is not always easy. When I say lovely sensation I probably should say that it is for me, some people may experience strong vibrations, hear strange sounds etc but I generally have a very quiet exit. Anyway to the experience.
While laying in bed one morning, allowing myself to sink down it struck me that a good exercise would be to let the mind drift off into the hypnagogic imagery and then bring it back before it went too far. Probably an intuition sent from my higher self. Almost like mind sit ups! It really is like strengthening your mind muscle.
I did it for a while but then couldn’t hold on much longer and I drifted off.
However, a little while after dropping off there I am suddenly in the mind awake/body asleep state. My mind has kicked in and I am awake, all I have to do now is fizz myself out of my body.
My first instinct when I leave my body is to fly through the window, if only to get away from my physical body which can sometimes have a magnetic effect on the energy body and pull it in. So I fly through the window and into the darkness on the other side, only to find myself back in the room, I try again, through the window into the darkness ……….. only to find myself back in my room, I keep trying, it is as if I am stuck in a loop. My guides must be cracking up I probably look like a dog chasing its tail!
Anyway, after about the fifth attempt the scenery changes outside the window……. but what happens defies description. It all makes perfect sense at the moment, I am talking to a little 2-dimensional man which is really a representation of something else, of a ‘people’ but what we discuss and what it is all about lies in some deep place in my memory that I can’t get back to in the morning. All that is left in my mind when I wake up is an image of a pack of cards and the image of the little man who was without a face.
It strikes me now while writing this that what was happening while I was out-of-body in my room, trying to leave through the window but ending up back where I started could have been a reflection of what I was doing before falling a sleep, trying to pull my mind back from the hypnagogic imagery.
Allowing your mind to experience the hypnagogic imagery and then pulling it back before sleep kicks in is a great ‘mind-muscle’ exercise. I think it is best done after you’ve had some sleep. Sleep is important and attempting to lucid dream or have an OBE if you’re tired could lead to frustration and even disturb your initial rest period, also your mind will be a lot more capable if you have already had some ‘shut eye’.
We need to convince our subconscious mind that we want to become aware while we sleep, sometimes, as in this experience, I become aware in the mind awake body/asleep state, as if my subconscious wakes me up. Consistency and dedication in astral projection practice are essential so keep at it, don’t give up if nothing happens, often we aren’t aware of the progress we are making and of course don’t forget to enjoy the process because it can be fun, it can also be frustrating, if you allow yourself to become frustrated because any exercise, in any practice there’s always something to be learnt. We are trying to train our mind, our subconscious to wake us up while we are asleep and if you do keep at it, it really does work, this happens to be all the time sometimes I automatically wake up in a dream, or in the mind awake body asleep state or sometimes I wake up when I’m actually in the astral. So it is worth all the effort and believe me I did make a lot of effort when i was learning how to have out-of-body experiences and I continue to make an effort because it’s not exactly like riding a bike, as once you’ve learnt to ride you can always do it but with astral projection you have to keep practicing you have to keep at it, you have to keep training your mind to be present in that moment, to make your mind stronger because our mind can be such an important companion but it can also be our worst enemy if we let it drift off, if we continuously being it back to the present that will end up also occuring in our dreams, so keep practicing, enjoy it all, get as much as you can out of every dream, lucid dream, OBE, out of every practice that you do as that’s what is important to get what you can out of everything and in that way you’ll always be making progress.
Thank you for listening/reading,
Happy Travels!
